Personality typing help us in expanding our self-awareness by discovering what best motivates and energizes us.
Personality typing is based on the work by Carl Jung and more recently Katharine Briggs, Isabel Briggs Myers and David Keirsey.
There are 4 personality dichotomies which make up 16 different personality types.
The 4 dichotomies are:
Personality typing help us in expanding our self-awareness by discovering what best motivates and energizes us. It explains our natural preferences and why some things come easily to us while others are a struggle. Identifying our strengths and weaknesses help us in choosing vocations that are personally fulfilling, nourishing, well suited to our abilities and may lead to better job satisfaction. In relationships communication is vastly improved if we better understand our own behaviour and why other types react the way they do.
Personality typing was never meant to label you, put you in a box and limit your growth. It is also not an excuse for bad behaviour and expecting others to just accept that this is the way you are.
Knowing your personality type is like knowing where you are on a map. It marks the ‘X’ from where you start your journey, it is not the journey nor the destination and you always have free will of where you want to go. Knowing yourself is like knowing what you have available in your backpack for the journey and the knowledge of how to use it. Knowing what you don’t have with you enables you to plan your journey to better suit your strengths and to give you the opportunity to prepare for obstacles by learning the necessary skills. It is up to you to use this knowledge to consciously create, recreate and adapt your career to best reflect who you are and who you want to become.
